WSSU video project.... inspiration for projects to come.

WSSU video project.... Here is a good example of the use of media by students.  While 99% of students this semester chose to complete a power point project, one group completed this health bulletin.  I hope to have my Salem students incorporate the use of media in their course work.  I am posting this here to serve as a starting point or source of inspiration.

Intro to Environmental Studies (AKA grassroots Biology) Spring 2011 is official.

It is official.  Grassroots biology is a course next semester.  I am busy trying to find service projects for the students, and working on good guest lecturers for the semester-long course.  There are only 3 open seats in the class.  It is good to know that there is an interest for the class.  I really want to provide a unique opportunity for students to learn about the concepts of environmental studies in a new way.

I'm eagerly awaiting the spring semester which begins Jan 31st, see you then.

A Dash of Green - and so it begins

In preparation, albeit early preparation, for the spring semester I have created this blog.  This will serve as the class blog site for the course Grassroots Biology that I am teaching at Salem College.  All students will contribute to this blog on a weekly basis, so that we can share our biological inquiry and activism with the Salem College community and beyond.  I will update the blog more often as we get closer to the semester and students will begin to contribute as part of their coursework.

FYI, the web address "adashofgreen" for this blog comes from two parts.
1) Winston-Salem, the home of Salem College, is affectionately refered to as "The Dash" and
2) The class will ultimately look at the biology behind the green movement.

Personally, I think its catchy!! Welcome.
